The International Development of Open Access Publishing: A Comparative Empirical Analysis Over Seven World Regions and Nine Academic Disciplines

Abstract This paper offers a cross-country and cross-disciplinary analysis of the development open access publishing from 2000 to 2019. Through an seven world regions nine scholarly fields, we found that, while overall share journals has increased significantly over last two decades, there are important differences across both analyzed disciplines. We also with exception neuroscience, proportion is considerably lower among ranked in Q1 quartile Scopus than general field. offer model that explains trends on different disciplinary geographical levels.
